Nothing is more frustrating than going out to your car, getting in the driver's seat, and turning the key and nothing happens. Whether you're leaving your Vidalia home for your morning commute, you're running errands around Statesboro, or you're headed out from Dublin, GA, a dead battery could really ruin your day.
News & Information About How to Jump-Start Your Car
Thankfully, there is a way to get your car moving again. All it requires is another vehicle and some jumper cables.
- Get the Materials You Need – You'll first need a set of jumper cables and a kind person who has a running vehicle. It's a good idea to keep a set of jumper cables in your trunk just for such an occasion.
- Position the Vehicles – Bring the moving vehicle to yours, facing it as much as you can front ends together. Put both cars in park or neutral and turn off the ignition in both vehicles.
- Place the Clips on the Battery Terminals – Now, you'll need to put the right clips on the right terminals. Let's break it down some.
- 1st Red Clip – Positive terminal of YOUR battery
- 2nd Red Clip – Positive terminal of the OTHER battery
- 1st Black Clip – Negative Terminal of the OTHER battery
- 2nd Black Clip – Unpainted metal surface of YOUR car that's not near the battery (the metal strut holding the hood open, for example)
- Start the OTHER Car – Start up the working car and let it run for a few minutes.
- Start YOUR Car – After a while, try to start your vehicle. If it starts, don't turn it off! You'll want to drive around for 15 minutes to get the battery recharged. If it doesn't start, wait another five minutes with the other car charging yours and then try again. If it still doesn't start, you most likely need to have your battery replaced.
