Engine Power
The new Sierra 1500 has different engine options. The base is a 4.3-liter V6 engine that produces a horsepower of 285. The other is a 2.7-liter turbocharged engine that produces a 310 horsepower and a torque of 384 pound-feet. There are two V8 engines, one with a capacity of 5.3 liters producing a 355 horsepower and the other a 6.2-liter generating a 420 horsepower. The fourth engine option is a 3.0-liter diesel engine equipped with a turbocharger. It generates 277 horsepower.
Performance
The EPA gives the Sierra an mpg rating of 16/21 for the city and highway, respectively, while on the base V6 engine. However, the V8 engine gets a rating of 15/21 mpg city/highway for the smaller engine and 20/23 mpg city/highway for the larger engine. The diesel engine has the best rating of 23 in the city and 30 on the highway.
Handling
The Sierra 1500 comes standard as a rear-wheel-drive model. However, an all-wheel-drive model is available, making it able to handle all kinds of terrain graciously without losing balance.
